General Tips for Using Storage Vaults

  • If you do not want to pack the storage vault (container) yourself we can recommend professional movers to handle it for you.
  • The average 3 bedroom home will fit in a 40 ft. unit.
  • Larger homes may need an additional unit.
  • You place your own lock on the unit and you keep the key.
  • Choose a sturdy lock with at least a 3/8 inch diameter shackle.
  • Containers can possibly be put in your driveway or may be placed on the street. Permit and barricades required for on street placement of container in Fort Wayne, Indiana city limits. Visit the city of Fort Wayne website and information on barricade permits.

Things to look out for when deciding where to place a storage vault.

Is the driveway long enough?

  • For a 20' container to open the doors 26' is needed.
  • For a 40' container to open the doors 46' is required. For a 40' container on wheels with a ramp, 56' is what it takes.

Is the driveway wide enough?

We require at least 16' to place a unit in the driveway. It is possible we may need to drive on your yard, this may be a problem if it has rained recently or during the spring.

If your driveway is new please check with your builder on how long to wait before driving heavy equipment on it. Cracking of driveway surface is always a possibility even if it is properly aged.

Other obstacles that can cause problems are basketball goals and trees growing over the driveway.

Due to the size of our equipment we are unable to place vault in alleys.

Things to watch for when deciding where to place vault in the street.

The vault cannot be placed next to mail boxes, fire hydrants, or in front of your neighbors driveway. It is always a good idea to talk to your neighbors to let them know a unit is arriving, this may help future relations. The vault can be put on either side of the drive, please let us know, left or right drive, when ordering.

If your home is located on a cul-de-sac or court you may not have enough room between driveways to place a unit. If you have a planter/island in the middle of the cul-de-sac, it is even more challenging.

It may be best to put the unit just outside of the circle, on a straight part of the street.

Your stored items are insured against damage, please see contract for additional information.

There is a one-month minimum rental period, after that it is month to month, for as long as you need the unit.  The last month is prorated by the day.
